BIOGRAPHY

Anahit Tsitsikian - was born on 26th of August 1926 in Leningrad, Russia (currently St. Petersburg). In 1953 she graduated from Yerevan State Conservatory (as a student of Professor Karp Dombayev). In 1954 she completed her graduate studies at the Moscow State Conservatory (as a student of Professor Konstantin Mostras).


She began performing professionally at the age of 15 and in 1954 became the principle soloist of the Armenian Philharmonic. Music of Armenian composers held a special place in Ms. Tsitsikian’s repertoire. She assisted, edited and was often the first interpreter of her colleagues’ various original compositions.


Ms. Tsitsikian performed throughout the republics of the former Soviet Union and in 27 countries around the world. As a violinist she produced 3 vinyl recordings with the “Melodia” label and left numerous recordings at the Radio archives in Armenia and Russia.


In 1950 she has established three new courses such as History of Bowed Instruments, History of Armenian Performing Art, and a Course of Music Teaching Practice in the curriculum of the Yerevan State Conservatory.


Ms. Tsitsikian was the author of a large number of articles in periodicals and programs for Radio and Television (more than 300). She has done an extensive research in the field of music history, musical instruments and Music Archaeology, and was considered one of its founders in Armenia.


The Armenian government recognized Ms. Tsitsikian’s work with the honored title of Merited Artist of the Republic (1967), an academic degree - PhD of Musical Science (1970), and the degree of Professor (1982).
